Slovakia is a small country in the heart of Europe. Our neighbours
are Czech republic in the northwest, Poland in the north, Ukraine in the east,
Hungary in the south and Austria in the southwest. The capital city of Slovakia
is Bratislava. Pezinok lies near Bratislava, exactly it is 18 km from
it.Pezinok is situated on the foot of mountains Malé Karpaty. Pezinok is a
winetown. There is a wine plant where wine is produced. A soft drink called "VINEA"
is produced there, too. It is a drink with a taste of wine. Grapes are matured
in September. It is a great occasion to organize a festival. Every other year
vintage (wine festival) is in our town. In Slovakia it is called
"VINOBRANIE" . The festival lasts 3 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
In the center of the town there are a lot of stalls with refreshment and with
some products and craft. There are many merry-go-rounds in the town. There are
a lot of winecellars opened where is possible to taste the wine. It is
the wonderful festival. Everybody has fun during these days. Many people drink
much wine. There is a specific wine drink for winefestival it is burčiak.
And what about history of Pezinok? There are many historical
buildings. Pezinok castle dominates them. It was built on circular ground plan around
courtyard in 1785. It was protected by historical walls with 2 towers. The
outside fortification included 2 embankments and 2 water ditches. When anyone
wanted to enter the castle, he had to cross the 2 bridges. The castle was built
from stone. Today´s design of the castle comes from the 19th century. Around
the castle there is a park, too. It was changed from the castle garden to
an English park by the count František Pálfy. In 1931 it became Pezinok town´s
park. It covers the area of 6 hectares including a lake. It is a beautiful place
for having a rest. Other historical buildings worth to mention are Pezinok´s
churches. We have got 5 churches and 1 sinagogue. The oldest church is the
Parish church.
And what about sport? Sports are very popular here. The most
popular sport is basketball. We have been the champions of Slovakia. In
Pezinok there are many good places for sporting. You can go to the swimming
pool, you can play tennis, squash, volleyball.... For young people there is a small
skatepark. It is not great, but it is better than nothing.
This town is one of the most
beautiful towns of Slovakia, especially for us. You always find something
interesting to do here.
